Author Guidelines

Before submitting your manuscript, authors are strongly encouraged to read and follow these author guidelines carefully. Manuscripts that do not follow the required format and writing standards may be returned to the authors for revision before entering the review process.

1. General Information

The Journal of Student Research Exploration (JOSRE) publishes original research articles, review papers, and scientific studies from various fields of science, engineering, technology, and related disciplines.

Submitted manuscripts must:

  • Be original and unpublished.
  • Not be under consideration in another journal or conference.
  • Be written in clear academic English.
  • Follow the JOSRE manuscript template.
  • Use IEEE citation and reference style.

The manuscript file must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.

2. Manuscript Structure

The manuscript should be arranged in the following order:

  1. Title
  2. Author Names and Affiliations
  3. Abstract
  4. Keywords
  5. Introduction
  6. Method
  7. Results and Discussion
  8. Conclusion
  9. Acknowledgements (optional)
  10. References

The manuscript follows the IMRaD structure (Introduction, Method, Results and Discussion, and Conclusion).

3. Paper Format

Page Layout

  • Paper size: A4
  • Manuscript prepared using Microsoft Word
  • Two-column format
  • Moderate standard margins
  • Font family: Gulliver
  • Main text font size: 12 pt
  • Paragraph spacing should follow the provided template

Authors must use the official JOSRE template during manuscript preparation.

4. Title Guidelines

The title should:

  • Clearly represent the content of the manuscript.
  • Be concise and informative.
  • Contain the fewest possible words.
  • Be written in bold with 16 pt font size.
  • Avoid abbreviations and acronyms.
  • Avoid unnecessary phrases such as:
    • “A Study of …”
    • “Analysis of …”
    • “Implementation of …”
    • “Design of …”
    • “Effect of …”

The recommended title length is approximately 12 words or fewer.

5. Author Names and Affiliations

Authors must provide:

  • Full author names without academic titles.
  • Institutional affiliations.
  • Department and institution names.
  • Country of affiliation.
  • Corresponding author email address.

The corresponding author must be clearly identified.

6. Abstract Guidelines

The abstract must:

  • Be written in one paragraph.
  • Be between 100–200 words.
  • Clearly explain:
    • Research background/problem
    • Objective of the study
    • Methods used
    • Main findings
    • Conclusions
  • Be self-contained and understandable independently.

Authors should avoid:

  • Citations and references.
  • Undefined abbreviations.
  • Detailed equations.

7. Keywords

Authors must provide 5–7 keywords.

Keywords should:

  • Represent the main topics of the manuscript.
  • Avoid overly general terms.
  • Avoid repeated words from the title whenever possible.
  • Use American spelling.

8. Introduction

The Introduction section should explain:

  1. Research background.
  2. Problem statement.
  3. Relevant literature review.
  4. Research gap.
  5. Proposed solution or approach.
  6. Novelty or contribution of the study.

Additional requirements:

  • The introduction should generally contain 3–6 paragraphs.
  • Citations must follow IEEE style.
  • Foreign terms should be written in italic format.
  • All sections and subsections must be numbered consecutively.

9. Method

The Method section should clearly explain:

  • Research design.
  • Research procedures.
  • Algorithms or pseudocode (if applicable).
  • Data collection methods.
  • Experimental setup.
  • Testing procedures.

The methodology must be scientifically supported by references.

Figures and tables must:

  • Be centered.
  • Be clearly readable.
  • Be cited in the text.
  • Include captions.

Authors are encouraged to use high-quality graphics.

10. Results and Discussion

This section should:

  • Present the findings clearly.
  • Discuss and interpret the results comprehensively.
  • Compare findings with previous studies when relevant.
  • Use tables, figures, and graphs to improve readability.

Subsections are allowed.

Example:

Equations

Equations should:

  • Be centered.
  • Be numbered consecutively.
  • Use Microsoft Equation Editor or MathType.
  • Include explanations for all symbols used.

11. Conclusion

The Conclusion section should:

  • Answer the research objectives.
  • Summarize the important findings.
  • Highlight the contribution of the study.
  • Explain future research opportunities when relevant.

Do not repeat the abstract or discussion section.

12. Acknowledgements

This section is optional.

Authors may acknowledge:

  • Funding institutions.
  • Research sponsors.
  • Technical assistance.
  • Supporting organizations.

13. References

Reference Requirements

  • References must use IEEE citation style.
  • References should mainly come from international journals and conference proceedings.
  • References should be recent and relevant.

Minimum references:

  • Original research paper: at least 25 references.
  • Review/survey paper: at least 50 references.

Reference management tools such as:

  • Mendeley
  • Zotero
  • EndNote

are strongly recommended.

14. Citation Style

JOSRE uses IEEE citation style.

Citations in the text must use numbering format:

  • [1]
  • [2]
  • [3]

Examples:

  • Single citation: [1]
  • Multiple citations: [2], [3]
  • Citation at the beginning of a sentence: “Ref. [4] states that …”

For references with more than three authors in the text, authors may use “et al.”.

15. Reference Examples

Journal Article

Format:

  1. K. Author, “Title of paper,” Abbrev. Journal Name, vol. x, no. x, pp. xxx–xxx, year, doi: xxx.

Conference Proceeding

Format:

  1. K. Author, “Title of paper,” in Proc. Conference Name, year, pp. xxx–xxx, doi: xxx.

Book

Format:

  1. K. Author, Title of Book. City, Country: Publisher, year.

Thesis or Dissertation

Format:

  1. K. Author, “Title of thesis,” M.S. thesis/Ph.D. dissertation, Department, University, Country, year.

16. Figures and Tables

Figures

  • Figures must be clear and high resolution.
  • Figure captions should be placed below the figure.
  • All figures must be cited in the manuscript.

Tables

  • Table titles should be placed above the table.
  • Tables must be editable (not images).
  • All tables must be cited in the manuscript.

17. Language and Writing Style

Authors should ensure:

  • Proper academic English.
  • Clear and concise writing.
  • Correct grammar and spelling.
  • Consistent terminology throughout the manuscript.

Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to use professional proofreading services before submission.

18. Plagiarism Policy

JOSRE applies plagiarism screening to all submitted manuscripts.

Manuscripts containing plagiarism, duplicate publication, or unethical research practices will be rejected.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work.

19. Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submission, authors should confirm that:

  • The manuscript follows the JOSRE template.
  • The manuscript uses IEEE citation style.
  • All figures and tables are properly labeled.
  • References are complete and consistent.
  • The manuscript has been proofread.
  • The manuscript file is in Microsoft Word format.

20. Important Notes

Manuscripts that do not comply with these guidelines may be returned to the authors for formatting revision before the peer-review process.
